Instructions

1. Rice

  • In a rice cooker, add 1 cup of rice, and wash. Then, add 180 ml water, unsalted butter, salt and turmeric. Let's cook.
  • After rice is done, please mix to ensure the turmeric and butter are well spread.

2. White sauce

  • In a small pan (or pot), turn the heat to low and add unsalted butter.
  • When the butter melts, turn the heat off once. Add flour and stir.
  • After that, turn the heat to low, then add milk into the pan slowly 1/3rd at a time. Cook until the white sauce gets thicker. *1
  • Add bouillon in the pan and mix thoroughly. White sauce is done!

3. Preparation for meat sauce (tomato sauce)

  • Cut the onion into small pieces.
  • Mince the garlic. I used already minced garlic.
  • In a pan, turn the heat to medium and add a thin layer of vegetable oil, minced garlic, and cut onion. Cook until the onion gets softer and clear in color.
  • Move the onion to the side of the pan and add ground meat to cook. After the ground meat is cooked well, mix with onion.
  • Add pasta sauce, bouillon, black pepper, and salt. Mix everything. Meat sauce is done!

Let's cook!

  • Preheat an oven to 430°F (220°C).
  • Prepare a baking dish, then add the cooked rice first, then white sauce on top. Add meat sauce in the middle, then add a thin layer of Mexican cheese on top of the tomato sauce.
  • Bake for 18 minutes.

Let's eat!

  • Before eating, you can make onsen tamago for the topping! HERE is how to make onsen tamago!
  • Let's eat while it's warm! Add parsley as a topping if you want.

Notes

*1 when the white sauce gets a little bit thick, it is the perfect texture. You want it to be a little runny but have thickness.
