Salmon Mayo Don is one of the popular breakfast and lunch in Japan! Also, there is a rice bowl that is called shake mayo onigiri at convenience stores and that is just amazing snack. It is so simple but surprisingly tasty.

Have you ever eaten salmon mayo onigiri or do you know of it? Sake(salmon) mayo nigiri is a classic type of rice bowl in Japan and every generation loves it. You only need 2 main ingredients, plus, one ingredient that I recommend you add to get a deeper and more flavorful taste!

What is Salmon Mayonnaise Rice Bowl

Salmon mayonnaise rice bowl is simply mixing salmon with mayonnaise. It is simple, but this is a popular Japanese breakfast or lunch. Also if you go to a convinience store such as seven eleven, family mart, Lawson or etc. you can find shake mayo onigiri at rice bowl section. At lunch time, because it is a great lunch onigiri, it might be sold out and not be in the section.

It looks simple but I have some tips to make it delicious!

  1. Break cooked salmon into small pieces as possible
  2. Add some mentsuyu as a secret taste

Ingredients
  

  • 150 g uncooked Japanese rice This is an article about rice
  • 200 ml water
  • 150 g salmon
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoon Japanese mayonnaise HERE to buy
  • 1/2 teaspoon mentsuyu HERE to buy

Topping

  • scallion (green onion)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • 【rice】Add uncooked rice to your rice cooker. Wash the rice 1-2 times with running water.
  • 【rice】Use a mesh strainer to remove the water and move the washed rice to your rice cooker.
  • 【rice】Add water and let's cook the rice!
  • Cut green onion into small pieces. This is a topping, so if you don't want it, you can skip this!

Let's make after rice is cooked!

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a baking pan, put parchment paper and salmon on top. Bake the salmon for 20 minutes.
  • After you cook the salmon, move it to a bowl and break it into small flakes.
  • After you break into small pieces, add Japanese mayonnaise and mentsuyu and mix everything together.
  • In a bowl, add the cooked rice first, then add the seasoned salmon on top. If you prefer, add cut green onion as a topping!
